The way the plan was drawn, it appears that the bottom stringers are to be installed after the wing is in place, so I have to wait till the wing is completed.  I've decided to forego "straightening" the two wayward formers - they're only a bit cockeyed on the bottom and will be "covered" by the wing.

There is a lot of wood in this model so it will probably be on the "heavy" side.  I'm using primarily 6# stock with the exception of the wing LE (3/32nd sq @ 7.5#).  I've even tapered the stringers to 1/32 from midway between the wing TE and the tailpost.

"Wayward formers"?  Alot straighter than mine ever are!  Gunna be a beautiful model Staub.

I might get started on the 109 pretty soon, the Hurricane is nearing completion and I've had it out for those early test hops.  I'm trying to learn a new "skill", how to launch AND hold a camera at the same time, all the time actually getting the airplane in the viewfinder! Shocked  Here's a link to the best I've managed so far, about 150 winds and it looks like it may have a little potential.  My first Hurricane was all over the sky and I never had the chance to trim in any kind of pattern, this one looks like another "wanderer".

I've been "able" to do some single hand launches with my 'stang and Spit by launching with a nose grip.  I stop the prop with my pinky.  This lets me hold the camera with the left hand - only problem is that the camera is set up for right hand operation - I haven't learned to launch left-handed yet.

My next builds will have to be larger.  I'm starting to have real problems handling 1/32" sizes (and I have two peanuts on the board).  The port wing is drying now with just the LE to be attached.  The half depth spar - a semi egg crate setup - is a pain in the patootie to do with the 1/32nd ribs, but is super strong.  I might add a short sub-spar in the center section as a base for the plug-in LG.

The vid is good Doug - nice straight flight.  How much right thrust do you have in it?  my Born Loser flies straight with low turns like that.  With more turns, it might go right.

Ah, the old "pinky stop"!  That's how I managed it, but I forget which hand did what, after all that was more than an hour ago and my memory has a re-set after 30 seconds!

Wing is 95% fini and test fitted.  This bugger is definitely NOT going to be an airbag, but it IS starting to look real nice.

Thought I had posted the three view and the catapult launch diagram, so here they are.

Hi all! Great pictures and builds of Battle of Britain airplanes! One in particular the ME109 (the black and grey variant)on one of the 1st 2 pages just blew me away.

Recently I have completed a Peanut Supermarine Spitfire based on reduced Comet plan which I did not document in this forum.

Still in the trimming stage, hopefully be able to trim her to fly well shortly.

I posted in the RCGroups and Hippocketaeronautics freeflight forums instead. The links here:-

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1249316

http://www.hippocketaeronautics.com/hpa_forum/index.php/topic,3933.0.html

Not much scale looks but simple enough for a functional Peanut warbird.

I will be starting a Peanut ME109 Messershmitt also based on reduced Comet Plan to keep the Spitfire company (to keep with the Battle of Britain theme), and shall post in this thread if you guys do not mind.

Pit, Hklam,

Couple of nice builds there.

Pit - In the local model shop last weekend I spotted this 1/48 109T kit by Academy, maybe an idea for a colour scheme?

That looks good, Malc. I've been scouring the net trying to find a T0 scheme - lot of VERY poor quality B&W's.  That one from ACADEMY looks like a T1 or T2 ( the "T" versions without the arresting hook and catap. shackles).  It could also be an "H" version.

The one I've found doesn't seem to have the mottled camo. The aircraft first became operational in early '40 so I'll likely just go with the then standard "Emil" scheme.

I'm in the process of gluing in the 40 Shocked itty bitty nose fill pieces - talk about BORING Smiley!

Covering this beastie is also going to be a pain.  The wing needs to be in place to attach the four bottom rear stringers.  It's been a LONG while since I covered a model that was completely put together Tongue.

Glad to be of help, it's definitely a T, unfortunately the only internet pic I can now find of the box art has cut off the wording on the box lid, today Google bless them have changed the way image search works so I can only view the first page of images, the rest appear as grey squares...?

If you search for images 'Academy 109T' you should find a better picture of the box lid. Or its a good excuse to tour your LHShops....

The video of the Hurricane should be up now.  A little work on getting a pattern so it can turn into the wind should help alot.  That'll come after a new STRAIGHT stab.

Some more done - time to decide on the covering and camo.  Nose fill completed and rough sanded, nose plug fitted and with a brass tube bearing, and the wing tips done.  I'll start on the canopy frame and a Koutny style three blade prop/spinner tonight if I don't waste too much time looking for a proper color scheme - a two-blader will be the primary air mover.

Lots of nice stuff happening now!  Meanwhile the new stab is done for the Hurricane, test glides look okay but no chance to fly yet.  Seems all we're getting for weather these days is thunder, lightning, and hail.  Not real good for standing in an open field.  Still need to do a spinner and a canopy too.

Hello all

I'm just returning to areomodelling after a few years busy with other matters and like the idea of this Battle of Britain scramble. I have the Doug McHard plans for the Spitfire and Me109 and of course the Hurri as well. I remember his D model at Old Warden. Very beautiful!. I think I had a Earl Stahl Me109 in  Spanish Civil War colors at that one, but it's a long time ago, so I can't be sure. It didn't fly worth a damn, anyway. A punishment for making a model belonging to the bad guys, some said. So what form does this scramble take?
