_____THE SFA WORLD TOUR BEGINS_____

The World Tour Flyer has completed its 1st official flight in the MIMLOCT mass Cloud Tramp launch, and the model is now being handed off to Pilot #2!  I have created a new website to support this exciting project, and encourage you to visit it by clicking HERE

This thread will now serve as the official discussion board for the World Tour.

Good luck to all pilots on the project!

"SoFiA" ... that's great, Ludo! Maybe that's what we should call her. Unfortunately it's too late to add more pilots to the tour, but are their any WT pilots near you? Perhaps you can arrange to fly with them and sign the log book.

Andy, thanks for the kudos, and for the artistic guidance!

You know, there are a lot of people to thank for making the World Tour a reality, but I want to start by thanking Tim the inspector. It was Tim's idea that starting this whole thing, and he had the most important elements sorted out from the start.

What a great idea from a creative mind.
Thanks a million, Tim!

Bhagat, I am (as close as possible but still being able to write this) at loss for words! The W.T. homepage, the machine itself (I like SoFIa, every aircraft should have a name), all the ideas and work put into this project makes me very, very proud to be a part of it all! Cheesy
Good luck to all of you flying her!
Cheers,
Johan

Great webpage, Bhagat

However, I forsee a problem that wasn't in mind at the time I signed up for the Tour.   I'm 12th on the list .... but I will now be out of Canada for almost all the month of September, thus unable to participate during that month .. and I wouldn't want it sitting in a post office waiting to be picked up or otherwise returned to previous sender as 'undeliverable'.

How do we get around this one?

Thanks a million, Tim!

Anytime you need an outlandishly goofy idea, just ask Tongue

Actually, I think 95% of the credit should go to Bhagat for making this site to bring us all together from our respective points on the globe.  The other 5% of the credit goes to Sir Isaac Newton for creating calculus, a college course so boring the mind is bound to wander Wink

Well, now that this thing is under way I hope to see it in my mailbox soon.

-Tim

p.s. What's the call on letting people fly the WT Flyer who happen to be at the flying field?  On one hand the more the merrier, on the other hand there's a greater risk os losing/damaging the plane.  Any thoughts?

We hurry.

Sam and I live in the same city and although not 100% certain I'm pretty sure I know which Sam it is.  I'll try to make arrangements to fly the same day as him to save a little time.  If that's the case then I could probably drive the plane up to you (Jim) that afternoon.

It also just dawned on me that I'll be moving back to the great white north in September and may have to bugger with the shipping order but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Well Jim, I guess the answer is "it depends." We can't predict when the package might be ready to ship to your address. Perhaps it'll be late in September so that there won't be a long delay. Otherwise we may have to skip your address on the tour.

I'm trying to encourage every pilot to check in here and attempt to contact the next pilot in line before shipping. That way we can verify that addresses are correct, and that someone will be there to receive the package.

Will you have access to this forum during September?

If anything, very limited. I doubt there are many cybercafe's in the wilds of Scotland but I might be able to pinch a few minutes on a PC of people we'll be visiting .. but, who knows?

That's a judgement call for each pilot, but I say it's better to err on the conservative side. There's nothing special about SoFiA that you can't get from other models, and the personal fun one might have should be tempered by the larger importance of completing the tour successfully.

This issue is also addressed in the Pilot's Guide.
